Do you love your great Lake Michigan? This weekend, you can show your love for it with your whole family. The event is this Saturday, February 11th from 10:00-5:00 and is included with general admission to Discovery World.
Love Your Great Lakes Day is a family-friendly event offering fun and interactive educational experiences from local organizations.
The goal is to introduce the community’s connection to freshwater through local organizations that are instrumental in sustaining the Great Lakes.
Milwaukee PBS will be featuring a special screening of Splash and Bubbles, a new kids’ series featured on Milwaukee PBS. In addition to the screening, children will get to help “clean up” a miniature Lake Michigan and take home some fun giveaways.
Local nature centers will be on hand with fun activities, including Mequon Nature Preserve, Inc. who will introduce cold-blooded animals indigenous to Great Lakes watersheds, and Riveredge Nature Center, where kids can create their very own sturgeon prints and see live sturgeon.
River Revitalization Foundation will be featuring an interactive watershed model that will teach kids about their impact on freshwater.
Kids can even check out the SCUBA rescue equipment used by the Milwaukee Fire Department's Rescue Dive Team and tour the heavy rescue dive vehicle (if weather permits).
Other activities include an environmentally themed bean bag toss, coloring activities, a scavenger hunt with a prize, and project creations in the Kohl's Design It! Lab.
There will even be a Pop-Up Museum featured by the Milwaukee Public Museum, where you can hear community stories around the connection between Milwaukee and the Great Lakes.
